Sharps Technician – Healthcare Facility (San Antonio, TX)
Pay: $18/hr
 Hours: Full‑time, 40 hours/week
 Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
 Location: San Antonio, TX 78229 Position OverviewWe are seeking a Sharps Technician to support an onsite healthcare waste program. This role involves transferring sharps containers, hazardous waste, and non‑hazardous materials throughout a hospital facility. The position requires extensive walking, manual labor, and a strong focus on safety, compliance, and customer service. Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, transport, and handle sharps containers, medical waste, non‑hazardous pharmaceutical waste, and hazardous pharmaceutical waste within the hospital.
  • Ensure proper segregation of waste types, correct labeling, accurate logs, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, follow safety procedures, and wear required PPE.
  • Support operational efficiency by identifying process improvements and best practices.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment concerns immediately.
  • Follow all EPA, OSHA, DOT, and ISO 14001/9001 requirements.
 RequirementsMust‑Have:
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (a state ID or rideshare/public transit cannot be used as primary transportation).
  • Reliable, consistent personal transportation.
  • Ability to walk 10–12 miles per day.
  • Willingness to receive vaccines if immunity cannot be documented.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Comfortable working in environments with noise, odors, weather exposure, and general hospital activity.
Education:
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED accepted with 2+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred:
  • 24‑hour HAZWOPER certification.
 Work Environment
  • Physical, labor‑intensive role with frequent exposure to medical and environmental risks.
  • Work is primarily inside a hospital setting with regular movement between areas.
  • PPE is provided (gloves, masks, safety glasses). Uniforms and safety shoes are also provided.
 Onboarding Requirements
  • Background check and drug screen (Cisive).
  • Vaccination compliance after clearance.
  • All requirements must be completed prior to the start date.
